Second Treatise of Government - 0 - Introduction
Introduction
Quote
... so that he that will not give just occasion to think that all government in the world is the product only of force and violence, and that men live together by no other rules but that of beasts, where the strongest carries it ... must of necessity find out another rise of government, another original of political power, and another way of designing and knowing the persons that have it.
Notes
🔥 John Locke was born in 1632 in England. He went to school in London and Oxford and became a tutor and lecturer in Greek, rhetoric, and moral philosophy.
🔥 He later worked for the government and witnessed some major political upheaval, having to run away to Holland, and then coming back to England after the Glorious Revolution in 1689.
🔥 It was around this time when he wrote The Second Treatise of Government and other works.
🔥 I'm reading the Oxford World's Classics version with an introduction and notes by Mark Goldie, published in 2016.
